All of these yoga practices lead to the real yoga.

The real yoga is in how we treat ourselves and other beings.
The real yoga is how we speak to each other.
The real yoga is what we say to ourselves inside our head.
The real yoga is how we speak about others.
The real yoga is forgiveness.
The real yoga is being real.
The real yoga is kindness.
The real yoga is speaking the truth.
The real yoga is taking action for what is right.
The real yoga is how we live.
The real yoga is how we care for animals.
The real yoga is how we take care of the planet.
The real yoga is each and every moment of this lifetime.
The real yoga is what we think, say, do in every moment..

Sunday, September 14th, 9:00-11:00am

There’s no place like home: Cultivating a home practice with Nickie Medici
Sunday, September 14th, 1:00-3:00pm

You’ve started a yoga practice and you love it. You go to the studio a few times a week, but sometimes your yoga mat whispers to you while you’re at home. You hear, “Unroll me, just one down dog will unravel that tight back! How about a few sun salutations to start your day, wouldn’t that be lovely?”

You become giddy! You unroll the mat – yes, I’m going to practice yoga at home! You’ve turned a corner, the practice is in your bones, blood and now – your living room.

There you are, just you and your mat. Perhaps you’ve made yourself a special playlist. You stand at the front of your mat, hands in prayer at your heart. Inhaling deeply, gazing towards the heavens you – forget what to do next.

This workshop will guide both the new and experienced yoga student in taking their yoga practice home. Learn the art of yogic short hand so you can take notes after your yoga classes at the studio and take sequences home with you. Tune into what your body is trying to tell you, so while practicing at home you learn to “feel” what pose would serve you best.

Not to be left out, the workshop will include introducing a foundation for a home meditation practice. A home yoga practice allows the yogi to deeply embody the teachings and techniques they discover in a studio environment. At home, uncover questions to take with you into the studio and in the studio, discover endless and supportive practices to take home. It’s a beautiful cycle.

Mantra Beat Music Concert (Kirtan) with Rahasya
Saturday, September 20th, 7:00-9:00pm

Rahasya is the vision of lifelong musicians Surdas and Vajra Yogini. Built upon the foundation of live drum kit, harmonium, and soaring vocals, the music is woven with elements of electronic sounds, sampled instruments, and sonic textures. Rahasya plays festivals such as Bhakti Fest, Bonnaroo, Chantlanta, and Mahabhuta Yoga Festival, and many more. Their tour schedule has them traveling around the US and beyond multiple times per year, leading sacred music concerts, kirtans, live music yoga classes, chanting workshops, and yoga teacher trainings. They also lead international yoga retreats in Peru.

Rahasya music is rooted in ancient Indian kirtan and mantra, while pushing the future of chant music with live sequenced thumping bass lines, elements of electronica, hip-hop, afro-beat, gospel, and down tempo grooves. Mantras are interspersed with conscious raps and layered vocals that resonate with uplifting inspiration. Music, in its highest expression, has always served to unify communities and catalyze spiritual awakening. Rahasya is truly grateful to be a part of this living tradition.

$20 per person

Take the Load Off Your Shoulders with Rahasya Yogic Arts
Sunday, September 21st, 10:00am-12:30pm

Take The Load Off Your Shoulders

Most people have some strain or compression in the shoulder, especially on their dominant side. This is due either to trauma, or repetitive strain, and the strain is often linked to holding in the neck. We practice techniques to stabilize the bicep/tricep balance, unglue the rotator cuff muscles and free the shoulder joint. We will practice a variety of poses that prepare the shoulder joint
for weight bearing.

Talks by Prudence F. Bruns

Self-actualization refers to realizing more of one’s inner potential, expressed in every area of life. A statistical meta-analysis of all available studies-of 42 independent studies-indicated that the effect of the Transcendental Meditation technique on increasing self-actualization is markedly greater than that of other forms of meditation and relaxation. This analysis statistically controlled for length of treatment and quality of research design.

Floating Into Inversions
Sunday, June 8th, 1:00-4:00pm

This workshop is suitable for students and teachers of all levels who want to refine their inversion practice safely and easily through the use of props, modifications, and proper alignment.

During this workshop Kayla will guide you through poses that prep and condition the body for the strength and openness needed to float your way up into different variations of forearm balances, handstands, headstands, and shoulderstands. Cooling and restorative poses will follow after playing with inversions!

Kayla Rodenhiser, RYT-200, has been practicing yoga since 2004 and started teaching after she graduated from the Dragonfly Teacher Training Program in 2007. The core of her teaching style is based on opening and strengthening the body through alignment, the usage of props, and moving at ones own pace.

Yin Yoga Workshop with David Bryan
Saturday, June 14th, 1:00-3:00pm

“Yin yoga is a gentler kind of yoga where each pose is held for a longer period of time. It is so that the deep connective tissue around the joints are elongated in order to release tension and increase flexibility of the body. The mind is also trained to internalize – to quietly and patiently observe. The body becomes grounded yet open enabling the flow of energy and the mind calms down becoming peaceful.” Sareena Sernsukskul

Join me June 14th from 1 to 3 PM at URU Yoga and Beyond as we explore the benefits that yin yoga can have for your mind and body. This workshop will provide you with an introduction to the postures used in yin yoga and allow you to experience the benefits of this calming practice, as Yin serves as a counterbalance to our very active lifestyles.

Thursday, May 8th, 7:00-9:00pm

Come experience Kirtan with Wynne Paris.

Wynne is a world beat artist/producer and musician who has spent the last decade devoted to an emerging genre of spiritual music: Yoga music and Kirtan. Wynne’s artistic sound is derived from 20 years of musical adventures and spiritual experiences.

Wynne spent most of his twenties playing rock guitar and singing the blues at nightclubs around Washington DC. In 1994, at the age of 30, Wynne took up yoga, dated a bellydancing astrologer, and had a series of spiritual and mystical experiences that transformed not only his musical style, but his vision of the world. One evening in 1996, Wynne was invited to jam with the Indian Saint Ammachi. The Darshan or blessings he received from Amma the “hugging saint” inspired a vision quest to California and ultimately a move to Marin county to study Indian music, shamanism and yoga.

Since this time Wynne has produced a number of albums including ‘Grooveananda’ and has played hundreds of gigs across the country, alone or accompanying other chanters, including Krishna Das, Wah, David Newman, Dave Stringer, and Bhagavan Das.

Wynne Paris is a Rock, New Age and world beat musician/producer with a special love for yoga music and kirtan, the call-and-response singing of Bhakti yoga. His live performance combines Kirtan chanting, American music (jazz, gospel music, blues and rock music), world beat rhythms and raga scales. He sings in both English and Sanskrit, and plays guitar, sarod (a 26 stringed, sitar-like instrument from India),harmonium, and percussion.

Wynne Paris Kirtana Americana
Thursday, May 8th, 7:00-9:00pm

Come experience Kirtan with Wynne Paris.

Groove out with sacred mantras, classical Indian instruments and the powerful voice of kirtan leader, Wynne Paris and his fellow devoted musician friends.

Yin Yoga with Angela Huntsinger
Tuesday, 9:30am, starting April 29th

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures or asanas that are held for longer periods of time-five minutes or longer per pose is typical.

Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues-the tendons, fascia, and ligaments-with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Yin Yoga poses are also designed to improve the flow of qi, the subtle energy said in Chinese medicine to run through the meridian pathways of the body. Improved flow of qi is hypothesized to improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. Yin Yoga is not intended as a complete practice in itself, but rather as a complementary practice to balance the effects of more active forms of yoga and exercise.

Laura Jarrait Psoas Asana Workshop and Empowerment Discussion
Sunday, April 27th, 1:00-6:00pm

Join Laura Jarrait for two amazing workshops.

You can come to one or both..

Sunday 1:00-3:30 $30
Yoga as Union – Cultivating the Undivided Self, An Exploration of the Psoas Muscle

This all levels asana class will work specifically with releasing, aligning, toning and stretching the iliopsoas muscle and its colleagues. The iliopsoas muscle connects the upper and lower body and as such helps stabilize the core, assisting us in creating coherence through the whole of the body. It is considered by some to be the most important muscle in the body and chronic tension in this muscle can easily contribute to pain and dysfunction through the entire body. This 2 hour class will consist of a systematic exploration of therapeutic exercises and traditional yoga poses to release chronic tension, cultivate improved postural alignment, strengthen, and actively stretch these deep core muscles so that we can move with more integrity. We’ll extend our exploration into investigating how we can move toward more coherence or integrity through the whole of our lives. After the movement exploration, the last 15-20 minutes of class will be dedicated to a guided yoga nidra practice designed to release tension in the emotional and mental body as well as the physical body.

Sunday 4:00-6:00 $20
Empowering the Student/Teacher Relationship

Teaching yoga is one of the highest services we can be privileged to give. Students are drawn to the practice for many reasons and then stay because their life is somehow transformed. In this teacher enrichment workshop we are going to do what all yoga is aimed to do, bring the unconscious to the conscious so we can increase the potency of what we are offering students. We will use contemplation, writing, and discussion to clarify what goes on behind the scenes in class. We will look specifically at student and class expectations and needs, your expectations and needs as a teacher, and your purpose, gifts, and personality. As time permits, we will also discuss specific common situations that occur in classes. Using awareness of these things and principles of conscious communication, you will learn how to make each interaction more effective in guiding you and your students towards the beneficial connection that is yoga.

$45 for both workshops…

BIO:
Laura Jarrait, E-RYT500, is dedicated to creating a safe environment in which students are challenged to explore their edges in order to increase their body and life awareness. Her classes include philosophical and physical inquiry that are rooted in her own deep yogic education and experience. Students in Laura’s classes can expect sound alignment instruction, moments of challenge that may take a variety of forms (advanced asana, simply standing, or attending to subtle movement, to name a few), an invitation to think and feel more fully, and a bit of light-heartedness to help it all sink in more easily. Laura has been a dedicated yoga practioner for seventeen years; her main influences come from the alignment-based schools of Iyengar and Anusara yoga and Shaiva Tantra philosophy. She was certified as an Anusara teacher in March, 2009. She also helps facilitate healing and increasing awareness using the energy system of BodyTalk and spiritual coaching through the Akashic Records. She is thrilled to be able to use all of these to lead people into a deeper understanding of themselves and their world.

Sunday, January 5th, 1:00-3:00pm, $20

Come spend time with Susandhya upon her return from India and a 500 hour teacher training with The World Conscious Yoga Family.Start 2014 right by activating your main energy centers with Classical Kundalini Yoga. Classical Kundalini is a Hatha yoga practice that integrates postures, oscillating movements of the spine, pranayama and mantra along with visualizations and meditations on the chakras. The goal of this combination of techniques is to raise the Shakti energy or our creative force from the Muladhara, or root chakra up the subtle channel of the spine (Sushumna) to the Sahasrara, or crown chakra, where the Shiva energy (the grounding energy of well being) resides. As the Kundalini energy rises it clears the subtle energy chanels (nadis) and their junction points (chakras) promoting clarity, vitality and peace. The rise of the Kundalini Shakti is not a physical occurrence, but rather a subtle energy shift that facilitates the development and expansion of our consciousness and we become more aware of our innate inner wisdom. Join Susandhya for a 2hr dynamic class and be open to witnessing your subtle body as you step with full presence into 2014!Classical Kundalini classes focus less on alignment therefore it is aimed at students who have had some experience with yoga and how to perform the postures safely and/or have a willingness to listen to their body.
